Sock bun incorporating small braids

I am running out of unique ideas that Claire will sit still for on Tuesday.  Ballet Day.  This one looked my better with larger braids, but I didn't have time to redo it.

Before you pull your hair up into a pony tail, pull small sections near each ear at the base of the hair line on the neck and have your model hold these as you pull the rest of the hair into your pony tail.  When your pony tail is completed, have model hold the pony tail out of the way while you braid the two section in basic braids up toward the pony tail.  Make sure you hold and braid the hair upwards.  If you braid down, your will have a funny little bump in the braid that you wont want.  When you finish both braids cross each braid under the pony tail to opposite sides and secure with another elastic to the pony tail.  You can undo the ends of the braids if you would like a smooth bun, to leave the ends in for additional detail in the bun.

Grab your sock.  I recently found a old pair of beige tube socks to donate to the cause.  Cut the toe off and wind the sock up until it resembles a donut.  Put the donut around the base of the pony tail. Grab another elastic and carefully split the pony tail so that is lays covering the sock tube in all directions.  Put an elastic over the hole kit and kaboodle securing it under the sock tube.  Carefully, separate the hair around the to cover the sock.  With all the ends of the wind them carefully around the bun and pin them down.  At this point go ahead and hair spray away.

Time: 5-7 minutes
difficultly: medium
Hair length: medium

  1. My hair is actually long enough for a sock bun now, I should try it.

  2. Great idea! BunQueen.com has hair donuts in different sizes so you don't have to use a sock in your hair!
